The entire Saved by the Bell franchise, including the original, college years, new class, and the reboot are now all on the live ROKU channel for Saved by the Bell. Lots of fun.
Yes, this was the original Disney Channel pilot for the show. It did not test out as well as they wanted, and retooled it for the newer version that we are all familiar with.
They stopped running THE NEW CLASS so it's pretty much the Good Morning Miss Bliss+Original Series+Hawaii and Las Vegas Movies+College Years now and none of the reboot.
Agreed, Rebecca. The show was a sitcom, and ultimately there to make us laugh. It was not DALLAS or DYNASTY where we needed those epic fights and villains.
As mentioned elsewhere, you have to remember that apparently Dustin Diamond was largely excommunicated from the rest of the cast when he released his book and the UnAuthorized Saved By the Bell movie came out. Dustin tried to say the ghost writer changed and made up things that were not said and apparently most of the cast did not accept that. The ghostwriter denied that and Diamond was credited as a producer for the film.
I noticed that the more salacious details from the book were NOT in the movie. Still, if the Mark Paul/Mario/Tiffani/Elizabeth/Lark all feel Dustin flat out lied about them, then they are not going to want him in the new project.
To be honest, the reason it is not going to come back to Peacock is that there is more money for them to be made by putting the entire series on that Roku channel. They make more ad revenue off it that way.
There is now a live Roku Channel for everything SAVED BY THE BELL. It has everything, all the original, the movie specials, the college years, the New Class, and the Reboot. It's NOT On Demand, so you can't binge watch it at your leisure though.
Other than that kid in season 2, the kid that was from Valley in that parallel to Tom Riddle=Voldemort" parody? I can't think of a real villain in the reboot.
Jessie Spanos's stepbrother was a pretty evil kid that eventually saw the light.

Hey. I Just wanted to let you all know that I have seen SAVED BY THE BELL: THE COLLEGE YEARS several times (I try to do an entire series rewatch of COLLEGE YEARS every year or so).
I first watched it on HULU and I believe it was true to what we saw when the show aired back in 1993.
But I noticed that first on NETFLIX, and then on PEACOCK, that when I watched it there, I was noticing what seems to be deleted scenes or extended scenes being put back into the show that I have not noticed before. Very small stuff to be sure, I think in the pilot there are two significant scenes probably 30 seconds each restored and I noticed the actual episode for the pilot was longer then it was on HULU.
So if they are indeed putting in 'complete scenes' into the PEACOCK version, well, I am now leaning towards doing a full SBTB rewatch now.
I know we are all stunned and saddened with the cancelation of the Peacock's SAVED BY THE BELL, as it is almost certainly the end of the line of the franchise.
I know we can look back and see where things were done right, done wrong, could have done better. When a franchise is as successful as it was, I think they did just fine. Still, I know a lot of us have ideas and or dreams of what could have been to make it better.
IF I COULD DO ANYTHING DIFFERENT........
If it was clear that in 1992 that Elizabeth Berkley and Tiffani Amber Thiesen wanted off the show for the reasons given, which is totally understandable. I would have started thinking about the next generation and even though the New Class lasted another 5 or 6 years I think, it was clear they never really "caught on".
My answer to this would be, of course, you look at the number of episodes that you have Jessie/Kelly for. Backload them as much as you can, to have them do what they did, and have them go "to the semester at sea" program that they ended up doing to justify them being gone. But by that, you could have them gone in early part of that last season.
I would have then, at that time introduced a wave of characters both at Bayside and at Bayside JR High. You could tie up a loose end of the show, where Zack/Slater/others go to the JR High, meet up with Miss Bliss one more time and take to mentoring a few 8th graders that are going to be coming, as well as some underclassmen at Bayside.
Use a bunch. See what tests well, what the audience reacts to, and then, when Zack and the gang graduated, you have the audience already invested in the new cast of characters. Maybe it would have done better there.
They have their way of measuring interest, so yeah if one of the smaller services were to approach Peacock to pick up the series they could. They would have to work quick because many of the actors and actresses will be looking for new roles.
I think they will still be able to bring back the Classic cast of characters; they could just act like a time jump has happened, film a graduation ceremony for the new cast and then bring in brand new characters for a new season.
To be honest, in order for it to happen it would have to be a franchise that is owned by Vivendi/Universal/Comcast property. The Munsters would be one option, most of the stuff on Peacock would qualify I think.
I'd have liked to see some sort of crossover episode with some other franchise if nothing else but a ratings stunt. Like if Willis Jackson (Todd Bridges) were to be the opposing coach from another school and gets into it with Slater; or if Blair (Lisa Weschel) from Facts of Life were to be the governor of another state and get into some feud with Zach.
Something like that.
I hear you, was totally stunned and devastated to read the news.
Sadly, unfortunately, unless we pull off some sort of "save Saved By The Bell" campaign, this is most certainly the end of the line for the Saved By The Bell franchise. Because NBC owns the property, unless they are being offered a LOT for the franchise rights, this is almost certainly end of the line.
Saved by the Bell was the #1 reason I got Peacock. There are enough shows on it that I will keep watching and keep my premium plan, but was devastated to see the show cancelled.
I'll be honest. Growing up I like Screech, but as I got older and saw how annoying he was on camera, it changed my opinion of him.
Dunno why.
If it had been up to me, going into the last season, I certainly would have done what they did with Jessie and Kelly going on that Semester at Sea to cover why they were not on the bulk of the episodes. But rather then bring in Tory, I would have started the process of handing the ball off to a new generation.
There should have been some 8th graders getting ready to make that move to the 9th grade. There should have been underclassmen that looked up to Zach and Slater and thus would be the heirs apparent for when Zack and the crew graduated.
I think they should do perhaps a made-for-tv movie set going into graduation for the new students that sees them off, and also gives us some finality with everyone remaining. See Jessie and Slater elope. Seeing Mr Belding. Seeing perhaps some of the NEXT GENERATION cast as well as seeing the current Bayside students leave to start their lives.

Breaks my heart that this happened, it was the main reason I got Peacock was for Saved the Bell! A sad day, and sadly, this is almost certainly the end of the line for the Saved By The Bell franchise.
For over 34 years I have been watching Saved By the Bell in some way shape or form and I realize this is the end of the line for the franchise. Thanks to all involved in any way shape or form of the show for the place it played for me as a child till today.
